11. Joy

Approximately one-third of the women were wearing the green jumpsuit now. Cedric still had so many more to go. He saw that Tiara had returned to her spot and sat quietly while Kara, with her blonde-streaked hair, was whispering something to the girl next to her.

They were giggling.

Cedric’s eyes narrowed; that bitch had better not be saying anything about his long hair!

He tucked his uniform shirt into his Sam Browne belt, noticing how skinny he felt. Where had his gut gone? It didn’t matter; he didn’t have time to waste. He unlocked the nearest woman and ushered her to the property room.

She wore a turquoise, long-sleeved crop top with visible black bra straps. She had on high-waisted, ripped jeans secured with a black belt. Her hair was in twin braids, and hoop earrings were dangling from her ears.

Her wristband indicated her name was Joy. Joy had an air of confidence about her, and Cedric did not remember having met her in the past. Joy complied with Cedric, and soon they were standing next to one another in front of the property room door. He was preparing to unlock it when he heard Kara’s voice from across the room.

He craned his neck and stared at Kara with narrow eyes. He watched as she whispered something to Ada, who was shackled to the bench and wearing her green jumpsuit. Ada listened intently, then shot Cedric a glance while stifling a laugh.

Those...Those bitches!

Cedric felt his blood pressure rising. He heard whispers and laughter all around the room. His temper continued to flare as he thought about the lies they were spreading. He tightened his hat further onto his expanding ball of hair, certain Kara had told everybody his secret.

He unlocked the door with the key ring on his Sam Browne belt. Joy slipped past him into the room. He followed and pulled the door as hard as he could, hoping to slam it loud enough to frighten Kara and her cohorts. Much to Cedric’s chagrin, the door felt heavy, and the best he could manage was a mild *plonk,* which certainly did very little to intimidate. Cedric sighed and listened to the electronic lock secure with a *click*.

Joy started to strip down and toss her items onto the table without any direction. Maybe she’d been here before when Cedric wasn’t working? He assumed his defensive position at the far end of the table and began the paperwork.

Joy was already fishing for her jumpsuit when she looked up and asked innocently, “Is what they’re saying about you true?”

Cedric felt his breath coming in bursts as his face twisted into a scowl.

He stared the naked woman down and shouted, “What did they say? Which bitch is spreading lies out there?”

Joy pulled up her jumpsuit and stepped into flip-flops. She freed her braids, and they rested on her shoulders.

She shrugged while glancing at Cedric and chuckling, “I don’t know. But I’m thinking they’re right.”

Joy turned and walked outside before Cedric could do anything besides get angry. Her derision cut through him like a knife. The door closed, and the locking mechanism clicked.

Cedric surged forward and shoved Joy’s pants, crop top, belt, jewelry, and shoes into a bag while growling. His blood was boiling! He had to reestablish order in the waiting room! He may currently be in a crisis situation, but Cedric knew he was still the alpha dog. He was the sergeant! He had decades of experience and training! He wouldn’t let some uppity whores humiliate him!

Cedric charged towards the door while pulling his fur coat tightly around him like a suit of armor. He nearly tripped on his boots, which were feeling strangely roomy. He knocked the door open and burst out into the holding area. He was huffing and puffing as he exited. The door closed behind him, and he heard a soft *click* of the electronic lock.

It was time to set the record straight with these bitches!
